I am a former Tournament professional golfer who now competes as an elite level speedgolfer. I started playing speedgolf in 2015 as a bit of fun but to my surprise I really enjoyed it so decided to train specifically for speedgolf to see how fast I could get. After two near misses, in 2017 I won the British Championship and then retained the title a few weeks ago. I’m currently ranked 4th in the world.
Speedgolf originated about 20 years ago in America when a few athletes were curious to see how fast they could play 18 holes. Speedgolf is basically running and playing golf at the same time. I thought it sounded pretty crazy as well when I first heard about it! The amount of shots you take is added to your time to give you a Speedgolf score, for example my winning score in the 2017 British championship was 69 shots in 47 minutes giving me a Speedgolf score of 116. The rules are primarily the same as regular golf, except you can putt with the flag in with no penalty and you can only carry a maximum of 7 clubs. It is a really refreshing way to play golf. Speedgolf embraces all the traditions and integrity of the game and requires all the skills of golf with the extra elements of speed and endurance.
Why I need your help:
Competing at Speed at the highest level requires a lot of traveling, with all the major international events as far afield as Australia, New Zealand, Japan and America so expenses run high, and completely self funded, I rely heavily on donations in order to raise the necessary funds to travel.
In October I’m travelling to America to represent Great Britain in the world championships with my goal to become the first English World Speedgolf champion. I have been training extremely hard and feel like I have a great chance to bring home the title. Any help you can give me would be hugely appreciated.
