I was diagnosed with breast cancer in July 2017 at the age of 41. That completely turned my life upside down inside out. Not only the obvious shock from breast cancer diagnosis, but also the isolation I felt was huge, because breast cancer normally affects older patients and I was the only patient who was premenopausal in patient groups I joined. In 2018, I was lucky enough to be given an opportunity to participate in a fly fishing retreat organised by Casting for Recovery and met a group of lovely people, and enjoyed every minute of the weekend. One of the highlights was, among everything else, their workshops. I was able to concentrate, for the first time since diagnosis, and forcuses on what I was doing. This has inspired me...I would like to organise workshops for younger breast cancer patients.
Jack and Mei is a small business which a friend of mine and I started to offer small hand sewn and crafted gift items as well as children's workshops. We currently do not have capacity for adult workshops. This is why I would like to raise funds...to provide sewing workshops for younger breast cancer patients. Funds raised will be used on buying equipments such as sewing machines and materials, hiring space among other expenses.
Workshops will be provided to younger breast cancer patients for small fee. This will be a place where patients feel safe and comfortable not only to learn new skills but to meet with other patients who have similar experiences. Our business will benefit from providing such workshops in different locations, which will initially be based around in south east England areas.
Younger BC patients have different unmet needs...and I would like to advocate that!
