Who We Are

Woodlands CC is an ECB Clubmark accredited club with 2 senior teams playing in the Bradford Premier Cricket League and junior teams ranging from U9s to U15s.  We also run an AllStars programme.

The club was established in 1894 and is situated in the inner city of Bradford and is surrounded by a number of multi-cultural communities. Bradford is considered an area of deprivation.

The club is run on a voluntary basis and has been a hub of the community for a long period of time.

We pride ourselves in being a diverse and inclusive cricket club and an active part of the local community, providing a safe and friendly environment for all.

Our junior teams comprise of both girls and boys of all ages and abilities. Our junior training night regularly attracts over 60 children and is led by our head junior coach, Mohammed Salim.

West Yorkshire Girls Cricket use our club as a base and run all of their training from it.

Our facilities are used by many, not only for cricket practice, but 5 a side football, table tennis, keep fit & Zumba as well as school holiday clubs, after school clubs and local councillors for their clinics.  We host the summer gala & Christmas Fayre for the local Oakenshaw community.  Oakenshaw Community Choir also have used our facilities for carol concerts for the community.

We have close links with a number primary schools, to encourage active lifestyles.

We work closely with local schools who do not have sufficient facilities themselves and one school academy who's key stage 4 pupils have been permanently excluded from mainstream schools.

We also work with in excess of 20 BAME Cricket Clubs who utilise our training facilities. As recognition for our work with the Asian community, in 2019, we were asked to host a cricket game featuring a Pakistan International team.

During the first lockdown, our facilities were offered to Bradford Council to utilise as a food bank depot/warehouse as they had a shortage of space.

The Cost of Covid

All of the club's income comes from hiring out or sportshall & from use of the clubhouse.  The sportshall was closed on 23 March under the National Lockdown and has had minimal use since.

The bar has remained closed since March.

All fund raising events & social functions have been cancelled as have the community events we hold such as the summer gala.   These have left a massive hole both financially for the club and in the wellbeing of the local community.

We used the time of the first lockdown to improve some of our facilities for the benefit of all.  Most of the improvements were carried out by our volunteers.  We want to continue this hard work.

What we want to do

We will use the money to provide additional hardwood seating for the new seating area which is also to be extended to allow better access. A low fence is to be installed to the front of this area and planters and small tables are required too.  If we raise sufficient funds further seating in front of this area will be added.

The seating area needs extending & hardwood chairs to be bought and a small fence to the front.

We also want to buy some specialised durable picnic tables that are suitable for young & old. We want to plant Beech hedge around the concrete garage to help improve the look of the surrounding area together with some Cherry trees around these tables to provide some shade. This new area will be available to all, whether its watching cricket, socialising or a place where the holiday camp or school children using the facilities can eat their lunch.

In addition, we have to replace old and broken equipment and machinery to help maintain the facilities.  We require a new triple gang outfield cutter and have been advised a used one will cost in excess of £8,000.  Other machines are in need of repair or replacing. Our Paladin machine requires new blades and the Groundsman spiker needs replacing as both the drive chain and a spiking mechanism have consistent problems that repairing doesn't seem to fix.

Matched Funding

Sport England have launched a "Return to Play: Active Together" initiative which matches funds raised by 50% providing we meet their criteria. We have to raise £10,000 from a minimum number of 100 pledges.

How can you help?

We need to generate donations from members, families, friends and the wider community to help us complete these projects and cover the lost income in 2020.

We are aware that both businesses & individuals have also been hit hard by the impact of COVID-19. However, if you can spare any money to donate, large or small, we would really appreciate the support.

If you do pledge a family donation, please can you pay for each family member separately

Thank you
