Woodford CC - POST-COVID PRACTICE FACILITY UPGRADE

Project by Andrew Floyd

We did it
On 7th May 2021 we successfully raised £11,560 with 101 supporters in 56 days

To raise urgent funding towards the cost of refurbishing our practice facilities, to increase community sports participation post lockdown.

New stretch target

Additional funds would allow for a complete overhaul of the nets, as well as further investment in coaching, equipment, and ground maintenance.

COVID-19 AND THE NEED TO CROWDFUND

During 2020 all of our fundraising revenue (from key fundraising events such as our annual Beer Festival and Bonfire night) was cancelled, and bar revenue and smaller fundraising activities reduced.

We had to draw upon all available club funds, together with local authority funding to ensure the club would survive through to 2021.

We cannot be confident of hosting any large event fundraising until much later in the Summer, with social distancing restrictions still in place, so we need a single large scale fundraising platform to concentrate our efforts and appeal to a wide audience.

Covid-19 has affected everyone in our community to varying degrees. We want to play our part in helping the recovery. As a community sports club we see our primary role will be to help those who have been isolated, or become less active (physically and socially) to find a safe and welcoming place to re-engage and hopefully improve fitness and mental wellbeing as as result.

Our facilities are currently a restriction in this effort because we cannot host large scale practice nights, nor can the practice ground be accessed on match days.

In order to be able to offer a full programme of coaching and training, and open up as much of the ground as possible to new members we simply have to get our practice nets back in action. With no financial headroom existing an urgent appeal was needed!!

The fundraising and activities that can then take place on the back of opening up the training and practice area will enable further investment in equipment, training and facilities.

ABOUT OUR CLUB

Founded in 1893, Woodford CC has proudly been part of local cricket in Cheshire for over 125 years.

We are a community club with a family mentality and strong links between our junior and senior teams. We pride ourselves on seeing the progress of our young cricketers through different age groups and ultimately into our first and second senior sides.

1615307573_photo-2021-03-06-08-30-49_3.jpgWoodford currently has a number of teams including junior and senior side. The club regularly plays host to 3 or 4 matches at Moor lane each week, with junior teams playing on several nights of the week depending on age group.

We have a small but dedicated team of volunteers, parents and supporters who help the club operate. Through Covid-19 we have relied more than ever on the free time offered generously by these people to survive and make plans for the coming season, in very challenging circumstances.

JUNIOR CRICKET - ENCOURAGING POST LOCKDOWN ACTIVITY

It is widely reported that health and wellbeing has been severely affected by Covid-19. The priority of the committee is to ensure the Club contributes to helping local families and young people find a way to get active, socialise and learn new skills as we carefully come out of restrictions.

We want to play our part in the Covid-19 recovery.

The club has held ECB club mark award for a number of years and has been part of the ECB all-stars program since year one of the national program. The All-star program is a way of young children playing cricket in a fun structured way.1615307602_efnkvoawoae4coy.jpg1615307750_1615307749670.png

1615308164_photo-2021-03-06-08-30-49_1.jpgWe had ambitious plans to invest in our facilitates to expand the opportunity to children, young adults and senior players to join a friendly family focused club in the Woodford area but our financial position, as a result of Covid-19 has put severe limits on this.

Here are two short videos from two of our female members - we want more inspiring young people like these two to try Cricket for the first time and fall in love with the sport!!

THE PROJECT

In order to maximise the number of people who can access our facilities under Covid-19 restrictions we desperately need to re-activate our net practice area and open up additional space that is currently unsafe.

With funding impacting our ability to maintain them our two lane net facilities have deteriorated significantly and now need to be completed refurbished.

The cost of this is estimated at between £10,000 to £25,000 depending on the scale of works required.

We are looking to get a new base set, refurbish or replacement matting and new netting to both lanes. The run-up area will also receive some TLC.

If we can raise £25,000 we could get a completely new 2 lane facility.

HOW YOU CAN HELP

There are numerous ways you can support the campaign:

1) Crowdfund - pledge donations however small are what we ultimately need (suggest £5 minimum but we'll take all contributions)

2) Undertake fundraising yourself and donate proceeds via here (sponsored walks / cake bakes / anything else)

3) Spread the word - via social media, in schools, with friends and family.

4) Volunteer to help with upcoming events

5) Offer up rewards to add to the campaign. Do you run a local business that can offer rewards to add to our campaign? These can be discounts / services / spend and save or anything else that might attract donors to help us.

We need all members, families and wider contacts to get behind this push as soon as possible so we can commit to the works.

OUR FIRST SMALL EVENT

To get some activity going straight away we are setting up an Easter Holiday Fundraiser - EASTER CRICKETATHON.
