The more money we raise, the more shutters we can paint and crucially the more big, iconic, walls we can paint and really put Withington on the map as an urban art gallery.

We did it
On 29th January 2021 we successfully raised £11,090 with 138 supporters in 84 days

In 2019 the people of Withington donated generously to a crowdfunder that promised to brighten up the village with street art on shop shutters and walls. This fund was matched by various local businesses and institutions as well as Manchester City Council.
Since then, a small group of volunteers has formed the Withington Walls - Street Art Project and has used those funds to arrange artworks on thirty shutters and five walls.
The public reception of the project has been overwhelmingly positive as Withington Walls improved the streetscape and created a sense of identity and pride locally.
We hope to continue the good work that the project has started but to do so we need more funding
There's plenty more shutters and walls we'd like to paint and plenty more artists we'd like to work with in the new year but the money is running dry whilst the weather is getting wetter.
We don't want this to be the end of the story for Withington Walls.

The artist behind the substation by the Red Lion explained that his key motivation for painting an orchestra was that they're a group of people coming together to create something positive and beautiful that is bigger than themselves, because he saw that as being the essence of what Withington Walls was about.
We chose to celebrate Marcus Rashford, who lived in Withington as a child, because his compassion, wisdom and determination campaigning for underprivileged children is an inspiration. The words chosen by his wonderful mum
440 Wilmslow Road was chosen as a prominent site in the heart of the village which gave us opportunity to explore how we could deliver simple designs with big impacts economically.
