A Winter Fayre by the Community, for the Community

We did it
On 4th December 2019 we successfully raised £75 with 4 supporters in 28 days

We are aiming to raise money in aid of local Kettering community projects, each aimed at making Kettering a better place to live.

On Sunday December 15th 2019 from midday to 9pm we are hosting a free to enter Christmas charity street party on Market Street and in the Yards in Kettering town centre: the first ever ‘Kettering Winter Fayre’! The event will be family friendly, and is being put on to give something back to our community – to improve our feeling of togetherness, and to inject some additional merriment into our town in the run-up to Christmas.

The Kettering Winter Fayre will offer a free cup of mulled wine and a mince pie (on a first come, first serve basis!) to attendees as well as various food and drink vendors, crafts and child-friendly activity stations, carolling with a brass band, an ‘auction of promises’, a festive bake-off competition, stalls for local organisations, a selfie dress-up station, live music and poetry in the evening, and a local radio station on-site playing songs all day long!

So why are we asking for donations? Well, we (the event organisers – all two of us!) are currently paying for everything out of our own pockets. Arranging an event like the Kettering Winter Fayre comes at considerable cost: we have public liability insurance, temporary event notices, mulled wine and non-alcoholic beverages (and cups to serve them in), a brass band, decorations, heater and road signage rental, flyer printing and other such essentials to pay for (including bits and bobs that we haven’t factored into our budget quite yet!). This gets expensive when you’re catering for up to 1000 people! So we’re asking for help from the community to cover the cost of organising the event to ensure that we can afford to put on another Winter Fayre next Christmas, and hopefully many more after that! If we can cover our expenses, 100% of any profits made on the day will be equally distributed between 5 local charities and good causes as voted on by you, the people of Kettering. If you can’t afford – or are simply unwilling – to donate in advance or on the day, we completely understand… You don’t have to part with a penny if you don’t want to!

Why are we going out of our way to hold an event like this in Kettering, anyway? Quite simply, we’re two young people who, along with the support of proactive Kettering Action Team and Bettering Kettering members, want to see Kettering thrive. One of the biggest pieces of feedback we’ve received is that people want to see more community events and feel a lack of ‘buzz’ exists in the town centre – so we’re here to change that! Our Winter Fayre aims to bring a wholesome sense of Christmas into the heart of Northamptonshire whilst giving us an opportunity to showcase some of the wonderful things going on in Kettering that we believe more people should know about!

Bake something for our competition, donate a promise to our auction, arrange to set up a stall with us, or simply come along and have a wonderful day about town, snow or no snow!

Thank you so much for your support, and we look forward to welcoming you to the Kettering Winter Fayre on December 15th!
