The aim of this project is to provide advice and support to get street homeless people off the streets or at least provide them with essentials so they don't get hospitalised as the temperatures drop. At this stage we will have time to get things moving before we drop below 0°C.
Homeless people die on the streets. Approximately 440 per year according to a recent Guardian report. In 2017-2018 at least 78 homeless people died in winter. We have the statistics, we have the information. But the problem is getting worse, and this winter is predicted to be the worst in 30 years.
This project will look at supporting street homeless people through the winter and beyond. There will be a particular focus on homeless women as they are at particular risk of being assaulted, forced into trafficking or prostitution.
By supporting this project you can help fund the following:
Food and hot drinks, emergency packs, sleeping bags, warm clothes, emergency accommodation and specialist advice and support where needed.
Providing cash would only be done in very urgent situations.
If this project works out we can look at more long term work to get people off the streets and into stable accommodation via housing and careers advice.
