A Wild Finca update
Firstly, wow. Thank you so much to all of your incredible donations, it means the world to us. Our vision for the whole project is to not only create a natural oasis, but to inspire people to connect with nature and seeing this support just reinforces our vision that there are so many like-minded folk out there.
We have had a few questions regarding the funding. The main one being, as it is flexible funding, you keep the raised amount no matter what figure is raised, what does this mean if you don't hit £20,000?
First off, it looks like we are on our way to raising 50% by the Saturday deadline, so that means we can certainly purchase one of the plots immediately. However, after long discussions with the landowner last week and thanks to your incredible support we have 'unofficially' secured the whole area for sale. Locally, it is quite old fashioned and, if you verbally agree it means it is as good as a written contract.
With the crowdfunded money we can use this as a deposit of sorts, and it means there is less of a rush (the original 2 week window) and shows our intent to the seller. This allows us to apply for grants, and worst case scenario a bank loan - already the amount raised reduces a lot of financial pressure on us to secure a loan and for that we are incredibly grateful to you all.
First and foremost we want to see this land protected, we want to start fencing off areas from grazing animals (wild and domesticated) to create areas of thick scrub in time for the arrival of our spring migrants in 2021, most notably the red backed shrike. What a surprise they will come back to in mid-May!
We will be erecting a barn owl box over the rough grassland in the hope we attract one of the local barn owls, and we will be planting a series of fruit and nut trees along one boundary in the hope this section becomes a stroll-in diner for Cantabrian brown bears one day.
All of this would not be possible without your amazing donations but also your shares, retweets and word-of-mouth. We cannot wait to show people this little wild space.
