Hi, I'm Sam and I'm a qualified Physiotherapist. I come from a massage and holistic therapies background and I've always tried to incorporate these foundations into the care and treatment of my patients.
One thing I've discovered is that when people think of physio they focus on the fixing of the injury, but the injury or condition goes much further than this.
Nutrition is a key element in recovery. Hippocrates said "Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food" and this is so true. Without the proper nutrients, the body takes longer to heal and recover and this can have a massive impact, not only physically but also mentally.
I don't think people are truly prepared for the impact recovery and rehab can have on their life and their families lives. For people dealing with an acute situation, the lack of independence that ensues and changes people have to make, can be very overwhelming. For those having to manage chronic conditions, the peaks and troughs and the progressiveness of their conditions, can take their toll. Both have a psychological impact but unfortunately mental health services just don't have a provision for this.
The aim of my business to help address these areas as part of a true holistic approach to a persons rehabilitation. Think of it as a supportive reality check following an injury but also a course of self management strategies to help empower people deal with chronic conditions.
The money you pledge to help support me and my business will initially help to fund a robust marketing and branding plan, complete with website, full of go to information. There will also be an online booking system incorporated so that people can pick days and times to suit.
My grander plans, if all you lovely people help me reach my big target, would be to develop an app for people to access personalised exercise plans, diaries, food logs, recipes and mindfulness plans. This will help to ensure each persons plans are tailored, all in one place and easy to follow.
One thing I really need to point out here though is I would be spending the money pledged with local business people. We have to support each other and encourage growth in an ever increasingly difficult environment.
