Rainham is an area that has pockets of deprivation. Whilst at its heart it is still a Village, recent developments and its proximity to London have seen an influx of commuters and an extremely diverse community.
Our Fayres have been running for over 20 years but over the past two years we have built up a strong committee who have brilliant ideas which has enabled us to completely revamp our Fayres with entertainment for all ages in two outside venues in the Village; buying and hiring equipment, different stalls showcasing our local groups and mixed ethnicity ; enhanced security and a professionally produced programme. This resulted in:
atmosphere where local residents are keen to help and be part of community
events and projects.
local businesses are embracing and acknowledging the effects that RAVE are currently achieving supporting us with free skips, scaffolding, a lorry-stage and programme advertising.
A recorded footfall by Havering Council on one gateway to our last fayre indicated over 7,000 people passed by and since we have 5 entrances in total we feel that 10 to 12,000 people attended compared to the usual footfall of around 1500.
Excellent reviews on Facebook and other electronic media.
We believe this resulted in a groundswell of community action where we were able to play our part.
Supporting us in a local competition where we came second
Receiving a Gold Award in 2018 London in Bloom in which we joined forces with the Local Volunteer Clean- up Team (“Rainhearts”) and Horticultural Society assisting in the planting of the flowers and some funding.
We can see that this is already beginning to make a huge difference to our community.
How could we develop with the funding?
Building on the success we have had so far Funding will enable us:
To provide even better and bigger events embracing a wider range of our community from outreaching to schools, clubs, organisations and members of our community.
To buy equipment such as a video camera and IPads to communicate and provide a community newspaper.
To Look at the possibility of being able to acquire premises we could hire which would benefit both RAVE and other local organisations from which we can run different groups, clubs, shows, art exhibitions, photographic shows, pop up cinemas, and also use for storage.
To buy a van which could be used for community use.
The possibilities are endless and RAVE could be sure that these ideas would turn into realities for our community.
How would we involve the Community?
We could build on our local presence in the Media and word of mouth.
Make further contact with all local groups and involve them in a local directory of events.
As an Umbrella organisation we could purchase ‘umbrellas’ to provide to local ‘Rain’ham groups which will show we have them in mind and support them protecting them from the drips of negativity.
