Walk and Talk Tours for Migrants and Refugees

Walk and Talk Tours for Migrants and Refugees

Walk and Talk Tours aims to reduce social isolation and introduce people to relevant services as well as useful spaces.

We did it!

On 29th Jan 2018 we successfully raised £235 with 10 supporters in 42 days

Thanks to your support we've had 5 wonderful tours so far! We've got to know a massive range of people from Iran, Syria, Eritrea, Congo, Pakistan, Iraq and other countries. We've introduced people to projects like the London Welcome Project and Borderline Theatre, places they can enjoy for free like the British Museum, YMCA, British Library and Foundling Museum, and had lunch at the wonderful environmental project Skip Garden.

Most importantly, we've built relationships with those on our tour, like the Pakistani artist who designed our new logo or the Iranian man we supported when his asylum support card didn't dispense any money.

We've kept to our planned budget with cost per person almost exactly £15 per person as we estimated. Overall, our tours had 40 attendees , with some liking it so much they even came twice! As a bonus, we have kept in touch with people between tours, helping people sign up for the British Library and we've got a cinema trip planned soon.

We're back to ask you folk to reach into your pockets once more and help us with the next 6 months of activities. We want to focus on relationship building between the tours, so that we can support people in their everyday lives. To help this process we'll expand our the small trips between the tours (in the future we are hoping to go ice skating and to the theatre).

We’ve done all this with only a small, but often fluctuating team of around 3 to 4. We need someone part-time 1 day a week to manage the process, follow up with everyone on our tour and make sure that we have a project which is sustainable. We've contacted a charity about employing someone on our behalf so that the necessary insurance and policies are in place. We just need to raise £3,000 to pay their costs. We would employ someone from a migrant or refugee background.
