Each month with our digital shows we will be raising funds for a different charity close to our hearts. This month is in aid of Abram Wilson Foundation: a youth music charity that inspires, connects and opens doors to the music industry.

The past year has seen the gap between disadvantaged and advantaged young people only grow. We feel strongly that it's important to ensure everyone has access to the creative arts, and to encourage and develop the next generation of music talent.

Abram Wilson Foundation

Founded in 2012, the Abram Wilson Foundation (AWF) is inspired by the late, great Abram Wilson and the values he embodied as both a critically acclaimed, award winning musician and an inspiring educator. His legacy and spirit live on in their work and those who are proud to have called him their teacher and mentor. In his short life, Abram achieved greatness, the Foundation exists to help others do the same.

Donations will help fund their career development programme, which nurtures talented emerging musicians who face barriers to a successful music career including gender, ethnicity, lack of financial support or mental health.

They will also help  fund music education programme ‘Future Sound’, which enables young people from the most economically disadvantaged backgrounds to develop new music skills and knowledge, creative ability, employability and wellbeing through live school workshops and accessible digital sessions led by professional musicians.

Pictures above are from AWF’s last Future Sound project, with partners SEED Ensemble and Church of Sound + young people from Mossbourne Community Academy in Hackney.

Alumni from the Abram Wilson Foundation include Kokoroko's Shelia Maurice-Grey and Cassie Kinoshi, Church of Sound's Spencer Martin and Reuben James.

Reuben James:

Abram is one of the reasons I’m doing what I’m doing today and I hope that by being a patron of the Abram Wilson Foundation I can help carry on his legacy and inspire others to live out their greatness.’ – Reuben James, critically-acclaimed jazz musician and Abram Wilson Foundation patron.

Since 2015 AWF have reached 10,000 young people in deprived areas with performances and 600 participants with almost 500 hours of music education workshops in London and Birmingham, and we hope to be able to help them reach even more in the years to come!

If you enjoy the music, discussion and more of Friday 16th, please consider donating what you can and feel appropriate. Every little helps in a big way.
