Waterbeach Toddler Playgroup is a small playgroup that has been established for over 30 years in the village of Waterbeach, Cambridgeshire. Originally, it started running from a children's home which is now Hatley Court residential home for the elderly.
Once the children's home was due to be taken over for residential care, a group of parents got together and formed the first committee which worked tirelessly to obtain the building that we are currently housed in. The portacabin was originally 3 offices from when the Grafton Centre was built in Cambridge.
When Hatley Court extended their building in the late 90's, the actual playgroup building was moved with help from soldiers based at the army barracks in the village.
After a long journey, we are now moving to new premises in Spring 2020 on what was the Army Barracks. We will have a fabulous space, both indoor and outdoor which will enable us to extend our services to the community and meet the needs of the ever growing population of the village.
Our hope is that we will be able to develop the outdoor area of what was the old rifle range in a way that will be practical, exciting and aesthetically pleasing for the children to gain the most from their Early years experiences. We would love the children to be part of this process and create different areas such as sensory garden, a vegetable patch as well as areas to 'run free' and explore, creating a sense of ownership and responsibility.
We believe that investing in this project, invests in our children and will ultimately invest in the futures that they carve out as they grow older and invest back into their own Communities.
