Gods Hope Foundation Uganda GHOF-UG is a Refugee – led Non-profit organization advocating for physical, cognitive and socio-economic development of marginalized people such as albinos & refugees.
GHOF-UG was founded by Janvier HAFASHA a refugee from Democratic republic of Congo DRC with a deep concern for marginalized children, women and elders from war prone countries such as Congo, Burundi, South Sudan and Rwanda.
In November 2020 they started a poultry project. The idea was to start with young chicks, as they are cheaper, so they managed to start with 40 one-month-old chicks.
The target for this project was to address malnutrition in marginalised children such as malnourished and children with HIV/AIDS positive by feeding them with eggs collected in poultry farm, as eggs are rich in proteins which boost the immunity system. Other birds like roosters, which don't lay eggs, were to be sold to get some money to sustain the project through buying chicken feeds and medicines.
Fortunately in late may the chickens started to lay eggs as they had planned, and 30 chicken have been laying eggs. This means that they have been able to collect a tray of eggs every day and over 60 children are benefiting from this project and there is a great improvement in their lives.
In the camp there is a big challenge for water, whereby people walk 9 kilometres to fetch water, and still they are not able to get enough to serve the whole community. This situation has even led to conflict, as people fight on lines to collect water, and of course there is no social distancing, so the Covid cases in Uganda keep increasing.
There had even been cases of young teenagers being raped because they are sent to fetch water, having to walk a long distance on their own.
Lack of water has severely affected the poultry project as well, as they are just able to drink water once a day, due to the difficulty to get the water, while they need to drink water more than 3 times a day.
Therefore, among the 30 chickens that have been laying eggs, there are only 15 that still lay them and is just once a while due to the poor water supply.
We are seeking for support to buy a Water Tank. With it we could kill two birds with one stone because the chickens will have enough water to keep laying eggs to feed the children, but also there will be enough water for the children, for people with special needs, people with disabilities who can't walk for a long distance, persons with albinism who can't see in the sunshine and their skin is allergic to it and for the elderly.
Please if you can collaborate with as much as you can, it will probably won't change much in your life but it will change the life of hundreds of people who will be so grateful for your help.
