Waneta began as a simple concept geared towards helping the less fortunate and needy and now it has grown into a Zambian based non-government-organization with the same simple goal in mind.
The name, "Waneta" comes from the Lozi tribe primarily settled in the Western province of Zambia. It's an endearing term that means 'my relative' and is used between close friends and family. With this in mind, we would like to recognise that the world is a village and help can be rendered to anyone as demonstrated in the story of the Good Samaritan.
This project has been set up with the aim of raising money to ship a forty foot container to Zambia, Africa to help the less fortunate whom have limited or no access to basic medical supplies. The container will house syringes, colostomy bags, wheelchairs, bandages, blood pressure machines, bedside lockers, gloves, paediatric tubes , crutches and numerous other medical items. I have rented an offsite storage facility to house all of these items, but they are also taking over my house, my garden, my shed, underneath my daughters bed and anywhere else I can find space.
All of the items we intend to ship have been donated by well wishers who have seen the plight of the less fortunate and wholeheartedly support our cause. A few years ago, we managed to raise X through donations from friends, but the majority of the money was from my own pocket and the difference the supplies made to my fellow Zambians was truly heartwarming and further illustrated the importance of charity.
I cannot stress enough just how much of a difference this container will make as the healthcare system in Zambia is ineffective for those that need it the most. The beauty of this project is that I will be on the ground to recieve the container and will work with the local government to distribute these items directly to those that require them urgently.
