Women’s Aid Charity Fundraiser
I have never done a fundraiser before, but if you could take a moment to read through my cause, and perhaps donate, that would be great. Even a share to spread awareness would be the biggest help! I will be doing a raffle with a prize (to be confirmed) and a 184 mile Walk. Basically, the equivalent of walking from the branch of Newcastle Women’s Aid to my hometown of Cannock, Staffordshire. Not all in one go, so if you’d like to sponsor afterwards, that’s great!
So I wanted to share something that I have struggled with for many years. I am not after sympathy, I am just looking to make a difference to women who have been through the same thing I have and need the help and support they deserve, to help them get through such a painful part of their lives and start to put the pieces back together after they have been broken.
For 7 years of my life, I have been the victim of Domestic and Sexual Abuse. It took me trying to take my own life as a means of escape to realise what I was going through was not ‘normal’ and it made me think, “There must be other women (and men, I am not dismissing domestic abuse against men) who have truly felt there was no other way to get out.” Domestic abuse can come in many forms, from physical to emotional abuse, coercive control, financial abuse, to sexual abuse. It is easy enough for people on the outside looking in to say ‘why didn’t you just leave’ or ‘why didn’t you tell the police’. It is not that easy! The one place that has kept me fighting for the justice I deserve and helped me piece my life back together has been a charity called Women’s Aid (for me the Newcastle branch).
Women’s Aid is a service in the UK that helps provide women with a safe environment and helps support them through many different agencies through Domestic Abuse. Their aim is to safeguard and empower women to achieve positive outcomes and have a life free from abuse. They work closely with local services and agencies to ensure women and children have access to essential services when they need them the most. Please share, donate, whatever you want to do. Domestic Abuse needs to stop and I hope my story can help someone else when they are scared and need that support! Thank you!
