Theatre Royal Wakefield is closed for performances until 2021 due to COVID19 - let's help them keep the lights on!

Hello! My name is Poppy and I have been working at Theatre Royal Wakefield for almost two years. During this short time, I have had the pleasure of experiencing a wonderful selection of performances (especially their famous pantomime and youth musicals!) and meeting a whole host of amazing people - staff, volunteers, and audience members alike.

COVID-19 has negatively impacted so many organisations as well as the way we live. Theatre Royal Wakefield has been at the heart of the Wakefield community for so many years. Not only do they bring joy to individuals through an array of shows, they support the community through a variety of projects - from the Conversation Café, an informal "cuppa and a chat" for refugees and asylum seekers to CHIME, music-making sessions for young people with learning disabilities and the Performance Academy providing performance training for young people.

So many young people, whose love of theatre and the performing arts started at Theatre Royal Wakefield, now perform on the West End (they're a talented bunch in Wakey!). I have decided to follow in their footsteps for this fundraising campaign! Over the remainder of Theatre Royal Wakefield's Crowd Funding campaign, I will be getting my steps in and will walk/run/dance/clean (any suggestions on how I can get creative are welcome!) the equivalent distance from Wakefield to the West End. In short, I will be moving 181 miles in 49 days.

Please help me support our wonderful local theatre and ensure the lights go back on by donating to my fundraiser - thank you!
