We, as a team of volunteers travel around the U.K. hosting events for survivors of childhood sexual abuse and exploitation. Through raising awareness and offering signposting support we help survivors of abuse to begin Voicing CSA and their journey of repair in adulthood. We were fortunate that many gave their time and expertise for free to make the Mouse but we need to pay for these services to make more and by working with professionals at cost price we are secure in the knowledge that we can make many more animated films that will raise awareness of a subject matter that people find abhorrent and as a consequence don’t discuss. The Mouse enabled many to start speaking out for the first time and disclosing their abuse at meetings and through viewing the Mouse and contacting us. We were then able to signpost to support and to the Independent Inquiry if we felt their past and the abuse they suffered fitted the terms of reference of the Inquiry.
When the Inquiry is over and recommendations are made we must continue to raise awareness to children and young adults who are vulnerable to abuse, to make adults aware of the methods that perpetrators will use to abuse children and to keep the conversation going with the public at large. Through animation we are able to raise this awareness on social media through conversation and through positive interaction of all ages in protecting the vulnerable in society which will always be the next generation.
