Kidz Aware is not-for-profit charity/ social enterprise with 3 core values at our heart: Equality; Inspiring; Embracing. We exist to ensure that all children and adults with a disability have the opportunities to achieve their aspirations in life.
We believe that everyone can make a valuable contribution to society, but people with disabilities face greater challenges. We want all individuals with any kind of disability to have a voice and be part of a wider solution that supports disability at every level of society.
We are receiving more calls for help from families of disabled children who are self-harming we are currently supporting many families who have children with Autism Asperger’s ADHD and are dealing with the same issues such as behavior difficulties but most alarming are having suicidal tendencies , These families have tried to access support only to be told unless they actually commit suicide there is nothing that can be done , these families are struggling accessing support, and turn to us for help.
We want to deliver training, support sessions and also provide a platform for these families to be heard , this will be done through a conference addressing children's mental health We want to deliver training, mental health support sessions and also provide a platform for families to be heard , this will be done through a conference addressing children's mental health and self harm and children who may be suicidal
We are also seeing a rise in people suffering with their benefits due to Universal Credit,ESA,DLA and PIP. The Adults and children we support have so many issues with their Mental Health they don't understand the forms and the requirements which they are now having to do.
We want to help Adults fill out the forms as if done wrong this can cause major impacts on their physical and mental health which is also impacting on the children
We have been supporting over 500 families in the last few years We are currently delivering these services with two part time staff and our wonderful volunteers.
However, as we are now the only charity remaining in Wakefield which provides practical and emotional support to local disabled youngsters, adults and mental health sufferers, we are being stretched to a point where it is proving difficult to find the time to do community fundraising.
We only have two part time staff and 6 wonderful volunteers we do not receive any council health or government funding
We rely on our fund raising and the generosity of the community , however this is getting really difficult as we are much needed in the office supporting families and if we are fund raising we are often out of the office
