Hello, My name is Miguel Amortegui.

I am a participatory photography facilitator, award-winning film-maker, photographer, investigative journalist and I give voices to the silenced.

I use film and photography to tell meaningful stories with a social conscience. I facilitate photography and digital storytelling skills within disadvantaged or marginalised communities to empower individuals by representing themselves, creating tools for advocacy and communication. My work includes projects with gangs in London, residents of Lima’s slums in Peru, communities experiencing extreme poverty in Ghana, Namibia and Tsunami affected Sri-Lanka. I have produced several documentaries with exiled people from Chile and Botswana.

In the last two years I have been working very closely with the community of refugees that were residing in the infamous “Jungle of Calais", France, delivering workshops and documenting their lives, their struggles. I am in the process of creating a photographic book (Voices of the Jungle) that will deliver an intimate portrait of the life of these refugees, their stories, their hopes, their dreams, and more important their dignity.

Voices of the Jungle was born as a response to the oversaturated and irresponsible coverage with which the mainstream media reported the refugee humanitarian crisis, giving a specific voice to the thousands of refugees that were trapped and abused in this place.

The publishing of this book will finance future projects with refugees and other disadvantaged and persecuted communities.

This is a project in collaboration with Dadaprojects
