Just like most of the population, I love cake! I love baking cakes, decorating cakes and of course stuffing my face with cake! Remarkably, in between stuffing my face, I did manage to come up with a business idea.
My love of baking crossed with my love of all things vintage, especially vintage china, inspired me to start the business. Afternoon Tea catering just seemed like the perfect fit. We can deliver to people's homes for smaller parties or venues for larger events. Everything gets set out on beautiful vintage china and everything that you need for a perfect, luxury afternoon tea is provided.
You really can't beat an afternoon tea, in fact I don't think I've met anyone who doesn't love the delicious mix of tasty sandwiches, scones smothered in jam & cream and really elegant cakes & desserts, all washed down with a strong cup of tea.
I love what I do and I love making people happy and hearing the lovely comments that I receive about it all. However, I'm unable to take too many large orders due to not having a professional kitchen and adequate storage for the all the lovely crockery. I work out of the home kitchen, which is perfectly adequate for smaller, occasional orders. However, when it comes to larger events and busy periods, it does get tricky balancing work and family life all under one roof.
I need to raise around £20,000 to expand the business and make it a success.
The main purpose of the funds would be to rent a professional kitchen with storage either connecting or very close by. This would make getting the orders out quickly, so much easier and much less back breaking. We currently have some storage space at home for the crockery however it's all stacked in boxes which makes it difficult locating what you need quickly and it's a lot of heaving lifting. In the new storage area we would be able to have everything organised on shelving and be able to load the van up straight out of the storage unit.
The second part of the funding would go towards buying or lease hiring our own vans as at the moment we have to hire them when we have large orders.
Why make a pledge?
I'm confident that this could become a really successful business, I just need a helping hand to add that cash injection. It's my ultimate dream to make this work and I will work all hours to make it become a reality.
Once I'm up and running properly then one thing that I would love to do is work with charities on fundraisers whereby people can have an afternoon tea and a percentage of the profits will go to charity. We'll work as much as possible within the local community to help as many charities as possible.
One in particular that I'm desperate to be able to help is a local hospice that I've never been able to do as much for as I'd like to. They do some amazing work for people in their final days and for family and friends who are struggling with their loss. That's just one way in which I will aim to give back to the local community once I'm established and have the funds to do so.
Again, anything that you're able to donate will be massively appreciated and I'd be eternally grateful for giving me the opportunity to make something of myself and my business.
