WHO WE ARE
We have provided vegan food for many yoga festivals, health events and other celebrations over the last few years and we are now moving into a shop in Amersham to bring our delicious fare to the local community. We are looking for funding to help kit out the café and buy equipment to help our volunteer chefs, yoga teachers and gardeners spread the word!
WHAT WE WANT TO DO
We will be able to provide our festival food to people in a deli/café environment and in addition we will use the space to to provide the local community with workshops, talks and demonstrations on growing your own veg, cooking and preparing plant based dishes and the positive effects these practices can have on animal welfare, human well being and the environment. The intention is to equip participants the knowledge, skills and motivation to incorporate this knowledge into their everyday routine no matter what their individual circumstances.
In addition we want to promote the positive impact a plant based diet and practising yoga and meditation can have on the lives of people of all ages and from all socio-economic and cultural backgrounds. Having formed an amazing team of chefs, kitchen gardeners and yoga teachers we want to offer schools, colleges, clubs and community groups short talks and demonstrations as well as 'come and try' yoga and meditation sessions, all backed up with tasty and healthy samples of Va Va Vegan's food.
WHY ARE WE DOING IT?
Both the WHO and the UN promote eating a plant based diet and recent research suggests a plant based diet increases our energy levels, overall health and longevity. The use of whole grains, pulses, beans and fresh fruit and vegetables satisfy hunger and provide slow release energy. This is perfect preparation for practising yoga and meditation, for which there is a growing empirical evidence base that it can have a positive impact on mental and physical health, improving flexibility and strength as well as relieving stress and anxiety and strengthening the immune system.
HOW FUNDING WILL HELP US
Funding will enable our volunteer experts to promote education around growing your own vegetables, eating a plant based diet and using yoga and meditation to enhance well-being to individuals through walk in events at the café and visits to local groups.
