Ur weekend Ur Choice

To engage with young people offering a safe space, creative, leisure & fitness activities over a weekend reducing risk of petty crime.

Unfortunately, this project was not successful

Ur Weekend Ur Choice

The charity flagship project "Ur Weekend Ur Choice” will be axed after running for 7 years in the community and changing the lives of many young people.

Council cuts will result in the closure of this service from June 2017, closing the doors to many young people in the deprived commuinty of (Crosland Moor)Huddersfield where unemployment is high and crime is rife. This will leave a big void in the community.

Our successful intervention programme, resources and volunteers will sit ideal where it once supported over 80 young people over a weekend.

Closure of this service increases the risk of incidents of nuisance, rowdy and inconsiderate behaviour towards neighbours, vandalism, graffiti and environmental damage including littering, dumping of rubbish and abandonment of cars and fireworks misuse

Your pelages will allow us to continue the project for a further 20 weeks as a minimum whilst the trustees lobby local councillors, local authority but also creating a window of opportunity to seek external funds to continue this much needed service.

The funds will be used to pay for the hire of a local community centre, volunteer co-ordinator, volunteer expenses, resources for arts and craft activities, like clay, paint, paper, glue etc.

Funds will be also be used  hire a local gym where young people can let off steam and anger in a controlled environment but also an opportunity for skilled volunteers to change mind, behaviour and attitudes of young people by promoting our community ethos of having a good quality life, free from fear and danger, where they can give and receive respect to and from others with a sense of well-being, belonging, and worth.
