Apologies for running this crowdfunding but we have an opportunity that we can't let slip through our hands. I could bore you all with details of my health battles over the last 4 years & how we have battled so hard without ever giving up hope but I want this to be about the project & not me. Any money raised will be solely used to purchase an ongoing transportation solution, equipment & cover any start up costs. We are happy to cross promote any businesses that donate. This will include free advertising space on our website & other promotional literature.

Who are we?

We are "Up The Garden Bath" a new and exciting non profit making social enterprise in Peterborough.

We take old unwanted & often fly tipped bathtubs and upcycle them into ready made garden planters. Old bathtubs have been reused on allotments for years but our project entails building a raised wooden surround for the bathtub. This transforms it into a contained growing space at a height that is easily accessible for children, the elderly or disabled.

Peterborough City Council, Aragon Direct Services & Mick George have agreed to help support our project by giving us access to unwanted baths & wood from their recycling centres. Unwanted bathtubs are a nightmare to recycle and to dispose of them properly they need to be broken up into small pieces & incinerated. We are doing our bit by upcycling/recycling these items into a usable item. These valuable donated resources need collection from various points in & around Peterborough.

We plan to do a couple of versions of our planters. All of our planters are finished in the wood style & colour of the customers choice.

(For our planters we separate the bath into 8 equal separate growing spaces measuring 30cm x 30cm (900cm2) to allow for maximum growth.)

Our planters:

Mini Allotments Planters - These come installed, complete with soil & 8 established seasonal vegetables or herb plants. This encourages people to eat healthy & grow their own food.

Pollen Paradise Planter - These come installed complete with soil & 8 established plants that encourage, feed & attract Bees. We feel it is vital to create safe areas where Bees can thrive.

Flower Power Planter - Comes installed with soil & 8 established perennial plants. Makes a wonderful display feature.

We have planned ahead and have plans to add a pond version with solar pumps & filters to our range in 2020.

Our ultimate goal is to formulate an educational lesson plan for schools that will allow us to go into Pre Schools & Primary Schools to teach the students about nature, self sufficiency, eating healthy & the importance of recycling. If we can teach just one child how to eat healthy or how to grow their own food we will have helped in our own little way.

The project has really taken off quickly & we are already dealing with enquiries from local councils in Teeside, Stoke, Portsmouth & Bedfordshire. These councils are very keen to get onboard & run the same scheme (under our company name) in their respective geographical areas.

We recently agreed to donate one of our "Pollen Paradises" to a new community pocket park project in Peterborough. This was done as part of Channel Four's Jimmy Docherty Bee Week in conjunction with Red Sky TV Production & our "Pollen Paradise" was unveiled on the 18th July to celebrate the start of this campaign. We are also due to install another one of our planters into Woodston Primary School in October as part of this continuing project.

The idea has also recently been featured on BBC Radio Cambridgeshire Breakfast Show & in the Peterborough Evening Telegraph.

Our latest social media competition which was open to schools in Cambridgeshire has exceeded our expectations with over 2.5k comments & nearly 60k views. This has generated huge interest in our product & we now have 50 schools who are very interested in our project. The positive response to our concept has been amazing & made us even more determined to make this a success. It has at least proven demand exists for the product!!

To help us keep up with demand we intend to utilise the long term unemployed & semi retired individuals with good carpentry skills. These demographics sometimes have issues accessing suitable employment & we already have a number of people interested in joining our project.

If you can help us you will be giving us the opportunity to help others.

Kind Regards,

Up The Garden Bath
