Carl and Becky, co-owners at Powered by Plants, partnered last year to bring an ethical, whole foods plant based shop to Warrington. Since opening our doors we have been blessed with a steady trade of community driven customers filled with gratitude for an ethical vegan shop on their doorstep.
We already offer BYOB for laundry, fabric conditioner and washing up liquid which has been super popular so far. This alone has saved many plastic bottles going to landfill.
Our quest is to install a zero waste unpackaged section where you can bring your own container and fill with nuts, seeds, grains, pulses, cereals, dried fruit, flours and so on. This eliminates the need to stock prepackaged foods which end up as future landfill waste.
We had originally priced this for our opening in February but the cost was too much of a stretch at that point. Having had a poll on social media we have discovered there is a much greater desire for this to happen. In fact 97% said YES to zero waste that's 330 people. So here we are asking for your help to raise funds to offer our local community unpackaged goods for the benefit of our planet.
The poll so far
We have already started to make space and move the shop floor around to accommodate an unpackaged section.
This is to the rear of our ethical Railway arch.
The cost for the containers and scales is where we need your help. With cost of a 42 unit bay starting from around £3500+VAT plus wiring, electrical, ethernet installation and stock we are totalling £6000 inc VAT.
We hope you can help bring this to life in our little ethical space that's not just for business but for the community.
