Help us raise money so that we can award scholarships, to support disadvantaged students who might otherwise struggle financially through their studies.
The loan money students receive from the government covers tuition fees, but 62% of students say their maintenance loan does not cover their costs and 79% of students say they are constantly worried about money. Many students cannot rely on their parents to make up the difference and we would like to be able to provide additional funding to those who need it most.
We believe that education is a basic right that should be open to all and decisions on what to study and where should not be driven by finance but the desire to learn and develop.
The Scholarship Hub is a Social Enterprise, established with the aim of helping students to reduce the amount of debt they incur by going to university. We provide a free online database of additional funding available from scholarships, grants and bursaries.
Our vision is to transform the way all students think about funding their studies and to make the search for scholarships, grants and bursaries an integral part of applying to university, as well as something students continue to do throughout their studies.
Why are we doing this?
We are approached daily by students who are struggling financially and this takes its toll, not only on their ability to study and enjoy the university experience but also on their mental health. Working in a part time job to earn enough money to eat and pay your rent, is not conducive to effective academic study.
But, the sad truth is, that there just isn't enough funding being offered and we would love to be able to offer some scholarships for particular groups of students.
Help us create new scholarships
One of our core missions is to create new scholarship opportunities and what better way to start than using some of your generous donations to create some new scholarship funds.
In particular the groups we would really like to be able to help are:
- Students who have been estranged from their parents or who have been in care
- Students who want to retrain but already have a degree and so are ineligible for student finance.
- Students who have specific additional needs and so require extra support while at university (this could be learning difficulties, mental or physical health issues).
- Students from low income households who are the first in their family to go to university.
We would create a scholarship application process for each programme created and promote it widely to encourage as many eligible students to apply as possible. The application process will be transparent and fair. All shortlisted applicants will be required to submit documentation to verify their application and 100% of your donations will be awarded to the winning students.
Not only will we be achieving one of our core objectives, but the new scholarships will also provide a great way to increase awareness of our site among the student population and hopefully encourage more students to search for additional funding.
Help us make a difference
We really hope you agree that what we are aiming to do is worthwhile and will really help a lot of students and their families reduce the financial pressures they currently experience. Even if you are only able to give a small donation, all together we can make a difference.
We are not promising that everyone who finds our site will graduate debt free, (although wouldn’t that be great?), but we do believe that every student will find at least one scholarship they will be eligible to apply for and might not have otherwise known about.
