30% of food in the UK has been prepared, manufactured or picked by a migrant worker. We want to 'Unite' our key workers with equality!

by Emma Jayne Vickers in Redcar, England, United Kingdom

At the end of December 2019 I quit my job to put the wheels in motion something I felt in my heart I needed to do. This was not a decision I took lightly (with 3 small children in tow). However, this journey has solidified the need and desire to make it a reality.

After spending the last decade within the food and drink industry, in the realms of training, it wasn't always a positive environment. Fear and anxiety would fill the room for many. Stepping into a room where the expectation was to sit through compulsory training only designed for native English speakers was not an easy task for many. It was hard to watch, and at times overwhelming. These employees were/are the backbone of the many food factories and hospitality industry within the UK. I felt deflated.

How is it reasonable and realistic to expect key information regarding good food safety practices to be understood with a language barrier? Its NOT fair and its NOT okay to exploit people because of their vulnerability.

Our aim is to encourage a ‘United’ feel in the workplace and to encourage mindfulness and kindness to each other at all times.

The workplace can be lonely for some people, and we believe that by providing training that accommodates cultural backgrounds and language differences will help people feel included in a working team.

We have used our knowledge and experience to create a product in four different languages to allow the learner to gain a comprehensive knowledge through flexible learning. We want to translate more courses and offer more language options and we need your help to make this a reality.

Our courses are translated by people for people.

We want a positive working environment. We want equality for all and we want to ensure the learning environment is fair and inclusive.

Giving back to communities around the world is something we are deeply passionate about, therefore for every course purchased 5% is donated to a charitable initiative.
