We have a great project taking shape and you can read more on our website www.umbrellaafrica.org but we need somewhere to stay when we are out there.
We would like to build 5 huts and install a basic solar system to them. This will help us with the project hugely as we have lots of people that are willing to volunteer their time and efforts on the farm and build the project out there but we have no-where to house them.
The land we have in RotiFunk is in the middle of a very rural area of Sierra Leone and there are limited shops, no hotels or other required amenities to provide for volunteers near by. When we stay out there we are staying with local families on their floors and spare beds but this limits the number of people that can come out and support us hugely as there is just not that much space available.
Our number one goal is to create a small area on our land where we can house key local employees and international volunteers that can help with the project and take us to the next level so that we can get the community the help that they need.
With these huts we will have places for ecological technicians, project managers, building volunteers and more to come out and stay in the local area so that we can find out exactly what direction the project needs to go in to get the best out of it for the local people. It is integral that the people working on the project can familiarise themselves with the area so that they can correctly assess their needs.
One of the huts will be an open community area that will have a solar charging area for locals to use as well as a community discussion area where they can come to us and express their views and ideas for our project.
Building these units will assist us in taking the project to the next level and put the work in needed to allow us to develop it enough that we can get larger funding from big organisations. We are asking you all to spare whatever you can afford to help us get to the big dogs!
The huts are £1200 each to build and fit out with basic facilities and the solar system that will serve all 5 huts as well as have spare to share with the community is around £15,000. Even if you can spare a tenner it will hugely effect someones life and go towards a project that could completely change the way this community lives. Please dig deep...
Thank you so much for taking the time to read this and listen to our story.
