As an executive producer for the movie I have already invested in the creation of the script that tells the story based on the true events of May 31 / June 1 of 1921 when an entire black neighbourhood was destroyed in Tulsa with the massacre of over 300 African-Americans. Prior to the massacre the African-American community was very successful and had its own banks and an entire commercial community that was prosperous and life was good. The truth of the ensuing destruction of Greenwood was cleverly disguised by the authorities for many years and was led by the corrupt government officials of the time supported by the Ku Klux Klan as a deliberate mission to get rid of the African American community. Through our full length movie it is seen through the eyes of one family, and we reveal the reality of how successful the community of Greenwood was, the trauma of what then happened and the stoic heroism of those African Americans who survived and moved on with their lives to re-build their homes and secure their rights to exist in relative peace despite the continuing conspiracies against them.
Seven months after the massacre 2,500 African Americans gathered infront of the emergency Red Cross Hospital to have their Christmas Carol service. Mary Parrish who was an African American school teacher stood at the podium and said " There is only one race that matters, that's the human race ". Mary passed away just a few years ago and will be sadly missed. The movie will be released with the memory of all those who lost their lives that year, and some of the very positive resolutions that followed. We hope that it will provide a basis for us all to reflect on the current day and our future.
