In 2020 I started my journey into living a life that involved less plastics and chemicals. I became a distributor for a company that sold eco-friendly products but deep down I think customers want to be able to go and look at the products in a physical store. There is also more demand for the option to refill your own containers. Who in Telford remembers the amazing Scoop and Save store in Wellington many years ago - it was ahead of its time. I know I wish there was a refill store nearby that I could go to.
Having grown up in Wellington, I have always loved the market. I love the smells, the noise and the choice. I love being able to support local businesses. Furthermore, I have always wanted my own stall there, to be a part of that family. It came to me that the ideal stall to have would be a zero waste refill store.
This is where I am asking for help. I have the stock and rent, that's all covered. But to run a zero waste store properly the main item I need is scales and these aren't cheap. Ideally, the scales I need are the ones that print out the labels, where people can weigh out there own products (isn't that part of the whole experience). To make this experience easier, gravity dispensing bins are also the way forward. This would help keep some sort of organisation to it all and mean that I can stock food/ingredients along side the cleaning products and personal care products.
This all feels a bit cheeky asking for people to give their hard earned money to help me set up my business. However, I truly feel that Wellington would benefit from such a shop. The town is beginning to thrive again and I would hope that a refill store would bring customers from further afield who would then support all our local traders.
