We are a gymnastics club in Nantgarw, just outside Cardiff. We cater for all ages and abilities and from our purpose built unit we run Women's, Men's, Pre-School and Adult gymnastics.
We started up a tumbling and teamgym section of our club nearly 3 years ago which we have been running successfully from a hall about 15 minutes away as they had the equipment there that we needed. During this time, we have developed our tumblers and have around 6 in Welsh Squad.
Since March 2020, the hall that we had been using has not opened at all even in the periods of time when sport and leisure reopened. This has meant that the gymnasts have not had access to a track for over a year. We still do not know when it is likely to reopen for our use.
As this has become a problem, we have now found a unit close by to our current unit where we can run our tumbling and teamgym. Having the unit close to our current unit not only means that we can develop our existing gymnasts but we can also open up classes to the 250 children on our waiting list. Having the unit close by also means that our current 450 members can also use the facility for extra training and those that want to develop their tumbling skills further can do so without having to travel the 15 minutes down the road to Pencoed.
We are now in the process of raising funds for a tumbling track for the unit. The track is 25m long and comes in at a cost of £740 per metre! We have been hard at work fundraising through sponsored events, clothing and book collections and raffles and have managed to raise enough funds for 7.5m of the track so far. We are now hoping to raise another 2m through Aviva funding with a stretch target of 4m.
