Who we are
We are The Royal Cornwall Polytechnic Society (The Poly), a thriving local charity, promoting the arts, sciences and Cornish history through film, live events, exhibitions, lectures and workshops. Established 184 years ago, our roots are in artistic and technological innovation. We are also the proud keepers of locally, nationally and internationally significant collections of heritage archives, which we look after for and share with the community
We are an exciting arts and entertainment venue for Falmouth, Penryn and beyond, supporting local artists and performers and bringing nationally acclaimed works to our community to entertain and inspire throughout the year with our extensive calendar of events.
What we need to do
We own a 180 year old building which, though well maintained, is holding us back.
Our long-term plans are to renovate our lovely old building to create both a fully accessible vibrant local community hub and a state of the art venue.
Phase One of Our Transformation
Our transformation will take place over a number of phases. In Phase One, over the next year, we will revitalising the library as a new community and performance space; giving public access for the first time in many years and dramatically improving the bar area. It will also provide central town meeting and entertaining space, with public wi-fi across the building. We will also be upgrading some of the technical aspects of the theatre to improve our facilities for touring and local theatre companies, musicians and comedians.
We need your help
We have successfully secured grant funding from Cornwall Council to begin Phase One. However, to draw down the money we need to secure matched funding. We need to raise £8000 to help us complete our vision for these improvements. Any donations from £1 to £1,000 (or even more) are very welcome and we have created a selection of exclusive rewards as a thank you.
Your support is vital to making our dreams come true – thank you for being involved and we hope to see you at The Poly soon.
