TRACKS is a van that will be converted into a professional mobile recording studio for young people! TRACKS will work in schools to support vulnerable, disengaged and disaffected young people. By using music to raise self-esteem, aspirations and achievements, we want to see young people motivated and re-engage with their education.
TRACKS will also provide a unique opportunity in community settings, both as an outreach tool to young people but also as a resource for community groups to hire for their performances and productions. We imagine churches especially will want to use TRACKS as part of their outreach to young people.
Young people will have a clear path of development, from a half term project on the van to mentoring and skill development through to playing within the NYFC Storehouse band and other performance opportunities. We also envisage young people developing in worship leading skills and linking up with other young people in the area for collaborative development and work. Ultimately, for some young people, we hope it will lead to potential for future employment – whether that be as a musician, a sound engineer, media expert or DJ.
Norwich YFC currently have no resource like this and we believe by having it, it will create more demand for our other youthwork services and give us strong presence in schools around Norwich.
To get TRACKS kitted up and on the road, it will cost £55,600. The fantastc news is that we currently have raised £45,000 in funding applications, donations and fundraising! So we've bought the van (a VW Crafter - the same size as a Mercedes Sprinter) and it is with Vehicle Installations to be converted. We now need the final £10,000 for all the remaining equipment.
