Raising funds for new equipment and to ensure all areas of the club are accessible to all.

by Torbay Olympic Gymnastics Club in Torquay, England, United Kingdom

Torbay Olympic Gymnastics Club based in Barton, Torquay is a non-profit organisation and Community Amateur Sports Club. After 36 years TOGC are now one of the largest gymnastics clubs in the South West and currently have over 1400 members with an equally large waiting list of almost 800.

TOGC provide a variety of sessions for all, from 8 week old babies to adults. Ranging from recreational gymnasts to competitive squads competing at County and National levels. The sessions include Fun4Baby, Preschool Gymnastics, Gymnastics, Trampolining, Tumbling and FreeG (similar to parkour).

After years of demand Torbay Olympic Gymnastics Club expanded into two neighbouring units in early 2018.

The first new unit has been developed into fitness suites to be used for a variety of sessions for children along with adult fitness and well-being sessions, including GP referrals. Classes started in the new fitness suites at the beginning of September 2018, although the unit is up and running it is not at an inclusive standard. We are looking to raise funds to convert a toilet into a fully accessible disabled toilet (£2,500) and open a window up into a door way with ramp access (£2,100).

The second unit has been transformed into a fully equipped gym, with sprung floor, for the use of competitive groups and school sessions.

As part of the expansion we are also raising funds for new equipment to ensure each building is suitably equipped. Equipment is essential when teaching new skills, not only does it allow the gymnast to feel the shape of the move but builds their confidence to try the skills independently.
