The beginning - The rowing club at Sheffield was set up 50 years ago by a couple of keen fathers who wanted their sons to row. It has grown from very small beginnings to have over 70 active members, and the ethos has always been, and always will be, to allow anyone who wants to enjoy the sport to do so. We deliberately set subscriptions as low as possible, and will always support those who need help. What stops us - But to do this we need financial support, and we are now becoming stuck in having health and safety issues around our boating area which must be solved if the club is to be as open and welcome to the less able and to youngsters. We desperately need an improved boating and landing area, and while we do have a design, we do not have the £10,000 estimated cost of carrying out the work - which involves building up ground as well as creating safe ramped access and level boating areas. Our aim - Creating this safe access will allow us to get new rowers of all ages and abilities onto the water and enjoying a satisfying and somehow compulsive sport. It will allow us to extend out emebership in all sorts of ways and improve our chances of getting schools and youth organisations involved.
