Taekwon-Do Impact Club

Our aim is to raise enough money to send our team to the ITF World Cup 2014 to be held in Montego Bay, Jamaica.

We did it!

On 15th Jul 2014 we successfully raised £3,020 of £3,000 target with 50 supporters in 28 days

Taekwon-Do Impact Association was founded and is run by Master Donato Nardizzi (VIII degree).  Master Nardizzi has taught the martial arts for over 20 years. He also has recently developed a Taekwon-Do kids program, which he promotes and teaches to other instructors around the world.

TKD Impact provides Martial Arts, coaching, mentoring and fitness to individuals of all abilities and ages in a safe environment under guidance of the Master and his qualified instructors, who teach at the Impact Centre in Croydon and many other locations throughout Greater London.

Taekwon-Do Impact International Team was established three years ago by our head coach Elena Shutova.  Our goal was to build up a strong international team, who would represent TKD Impact Association and England at international Taekwon-Do events regularly organized by ITF (International Taekwon-Do Federation) and held in different countries around the world.  Our intentions are to establish and keep the highest possible level at the martial art we practice, so we can provide the best quality guidance and instructions to children and adults in England.

Under Elena’s guidance and stewardship the team take part in several tournaments each year, consistently improving individual and team performances, and achieving excellent results not only in regional and national competitions, but also internationally.  The team trains at weekly squad sessions held at the Impact Academy Centre in Croydon, in addition to the regular Taekwon-Do classes each competitor attends with their respective instructors.

Our current team members are:

Blackbelts – Thomas Taylor, Hayden McCarthy, Parris Ikuomola, Matthew Go Olivar, James Padula, George Hadrys, Jennifer Pena, Carol Hudson and Joshua Quansah

Colourbelts – Sarah Makumbi, Wojciech Mazurek, William Rainbow and Agnieszka Abdulwahab

Coach - Elena Shutova (IV degree)

Taekwon-Do is an art of self-defence originated in Korea.  It has grown in popularity and is taught in nearly every country in the world.  There are several modules in Taekwon-Do practice and competitions: patterns (foundation of the art), sparring, power breaking, special (jumping) techniques, self-defence releases and locks. In competitions there are also team events, in which a team of 5 competitors compete against another team in team patterns (synchronized performance or techniques) and team sparring.

'Taekwon' means hand/foot in Korean, and 'Do' (like in all oriental martial arts) means the Art / the Way.

The tenets of Taekwon-Do, which every Taekwon-Do student strives to live by, are: Courtesy, Integrity, Perseverance, Self-Control, Indomitable Spirit

The ITF World Cup is held every 2 years and is open to all National Taekwon-Do Associations and Clubs.  It is held this year in Montego Bay, Jamaica on 26th -30th August.  Many world champions and european champions take part in this tournament and therefore the level is very high.

Unfortunately, ITF Taekwon-Do in England is not a National sport and does not receive any funding from a National sporting body.  Therefore, individual competitors pay for their travel, accommodation and entry fees, even if they represent the club or the country.

Impact Association supports and sponsors its team as much as funds permit.  However, costs for some tournaments can accumulate, and fundraising is necessary in order for the Association to allow all selected competitors to participate in certain competitions.

We have a strong junior team that are not only talented but have a potential and determination to win at the World class level.  Some of our team members are also members of England National Team and represent England at the European and World Championships held every year.  Matthew Go-Olivar won a Gold and a Bronze medal at this years European Championships in Italy.  James Padula and George Hadrys both won bronze medals in the ITF World Championships held in Spain last year.  Jennifer Pena won a silver medal in the ITF European Championships held in Italy in April this year.

Funding is imperative in order for the team to participate at the World Cup to test their skills against other top-level international competitors, gain experience, and to continue to promote the art and maintain high standards.

All team members work extremely hard to better themselves.  Each team member is motivated to succeed, as well as to help their teammates to achieve their goals.  Gaining experience at the World Cup is invaluable.  With every experience we hope to pass our knowledge on to children and adults at our local clubs/schools.  We want our success to encourage people within our local communities - children, adults, whole families - to join Taekwon-do, and to inspire them achieve their goals whatever they might be.  Our instructors teach children as young as 2 years old. Most team members of the international team are Assistant Instructors at their local clubs.  We also teach Taekwon-Do at local primary and secondary schools throughout London.

The raised funds will be used to subsidise flights to Jamaica, accommodation and entry fees for 13 competitors.

THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR SUPPORT. You can keep up to date with our progress on our facebook page or on the official World Cup website. The links are below.
