To raise money for Tiny Tyros - a parent or carer supervised, 0 - 5s play area popping up on camp for families between 12 - 23rd July 2019.

by Gabrielle O'Leary in Brookwood, England, United Kingdom

Tiny Tyros is happening this year to support the inclusion of families on camp with young children. It is a parent or carer supervised, self tidy play area on camp for 0 - 5 year old children that will be set up as a Learning Through Play environment - this means that it will have a number of different play or activity centres set up for children to explore. The centres will be fun and set up to help them to develop different skills and make sense of the world around them.

All of the toys, supplies and equipment acquired for Tiny Tyros so far have been collected via donation from the local community, loaned by families or purchased at low cost through local community pages and FB Marketplace. (All items are being checked for defects, being washed and/or sanitised before they debut in the play area!)

Support from the local community has been fantastic and will form the core of the play area. Now I need to raise funds to fill specific gaps in activity centres, purchase equipment and supplies that I have not been able to secure to date (or that should be purchased new for sanitary reasons). Examples of this (not any priority order) include new, interlocking foam mats for the baby area, a set of toy tools for a workbench, arts and craft supplies and some key safety items to ensure that the play area is safe and secure e.g. double door, pressure fit safety gate at the play area's front entrance. Also, I would like to acquire more craft supplies to enhance the arts and crafts area. I would like to set up a daily craft activity so that there is something different for families to do each day.

In the event that we can raise sufficient funds, I would also like to employ some local suppliers to provide arts, craft and STEM activities or demonstrations that complement themes happening in the play area. I would also like to include some general family entertainment after the play area closes e.g. face painting. Including these kinds of sessions would allow Tiny Tyros to expand its reach to support families with older children (6 - 12) as well, particularly on the 20 - 21st July when there are no day camps taking place in the local area.

Tiny Tyros is a community, non-profit endeavour being set up and run by parent-volunteers for the benefit of all families on camp during the Imperial Meeting. Please support this initiative by donating money and please look out for opportunities during the meeting to get involved! Help to tidy and reset play centres will be gratefully received!
