I'm participating in Mind's Three Peaks Challenge in September to raise money for Dorking Minds, which was set up to provide local people with Mental Health First Aid Training – an educational course which teaches people how to identify, understand and help a person who may be experiencing a mental health issue. In the same way as we learn physical first aid, Mental Health First Aid teaches people how to recognise those crucial warning signs of mental ill health.
I've already made a £300 donation to Mind to participate, plus the entry fee of £80. The idea is that any additional money will be raised here, and will go to Dorking Minds.
Do take a look at what we're doing at Dorking Minds. It's a tremendous cause, especially given the current state of mental health services, and I think it's important that we can train as many Mental Health First Aiders as we can in our area, so that the community becomes better equipped to support itself and help its people through their mental health issues and episodes.
