We are a non-profit, volunteer and family-run organisation working to maintain Thorrington Tide Mill for future generations to enjoy. The current building was built in the 1830s and is one of the country's few remaining working tide mills with a rich history dating back to Roman times. You can read more about its fascinating history here: https://thorringtontidemill.org/
We are raising funds to complete essential repairs and maintenance so that we can preserve the building and ensure visitors have the best possible and informative experience. These works include:
External redecoration including the decoration of timber boarding, doors and windows, bargeboards, soffits and repointing of open joints in brickwork.
Improving public access, safety, and information within the building, including modifying handrails, interactive information boards, life jackets
Water wheel and machinery repairs so the wheel can turn for public demonstrations, including repairing spill gate from the pond, repair of wheel paddles, replacing timber of pit wheel and reducing water in the pit itself
Other serious structural repairs to brick walls due to water damage and drainage
