Thorne and Moorends Community Hub and Food Bank

People and families are suffering extreme food poverty. Working people are unable to feed themselves and their families after paying bills.

Unfortunately this project was not successful.

My husband Mick and I started the food bank in 2014. People and families are suffering with food poverty in our community. Our team of 12 volunteers collect, and sort the unused donations of food from supermarkets and tinned and dried food from our communities. We then pack food bags with 3 days of tinned food, fresh fruit and vegetables, bread, sandwiches and cakes and fresh donated chicken.

We offer help and advice from our partner agencies I.e housing, mental health, substance abuse. We give friendship and help, togetherness with a free cuppa and toast or a cake.

We are a registered charity and an independent food bank.
