I have had bipolar since I was 15. I have been hospitalised a number of times, although now it’s been nearly a decade since my last admission. I am also 8 years into recovery from addiction and I practice the 12 steps.
Since being in recovery I have worked in some amazing places; prisons, psychiatric hospitals, forensics units. I have also taught in schools and universities. My dream was to be a mental health nurse, but I got ill at the end of my second year and I have decided not to return. I now want to work for myself to give myself the best chance at leading a normal life. My business will be consultancy work, drawing on my own experiences and using the skills I have learnt whilst working and studying. I would like to develop training in mental health, addiction and dual diagnosis, and I will write a blog on my website. I want to provide a service that I believe is missing in our mental health and addiction services, especially in the aftermath of the pandemic.
