I have been teaching in school for 19 years working with many delightful well mannered and well behaved children. It was a joy to work with so many bright young minds. It is a really great job, especially when working in small schools and bright students.
However, I was made redundant recently and noticed I had some health concerns that I have not been paying attention to.
I decided it was time to focus on my health. Yoga, Dance and Pilates have helped me resolve some back pain and keep my body flexible. I have a degree in business information technology, this taught me about business and marketing. I also have teaching qualifications in community dance, matwork pilates and hatha yoga, but due to school teaching I was not able to work on these before. There are also many state schools with few whole community venues.
I would like to combine my experiences in this project. There are no local bespoke dance studios, with yoga and dance in the local area. There is a surplus of yoga and Pilates teachers with no where to work that I have worked with. These three disciplines work the mind and body. I would like to offer a range of community classes for people on low or no income as well as high end classes for those that are used to this kind of experience.
Yoga does appear to have an elitist audience, I would attract a broad demographic and ensure my classes are truly diverse, like me.
I have been teaching yoga for five year, pilates for ten years and dance on for five years but dancing since I was 11.
I currently teach in Fusion Gym forest hill and have a wide audience of clients.
One of my focuses is on mindfulness, and I will be offering classes to state schools students in the local area, there are both all boys and all girls secondary schools locally. The classes would be targeted at the young and an older audience, there are many over 50s and retired people. Most people are single and the average age 39, the studio would be a social hub, a healthy way to bond the community.
