We simply cannot let our wild salmon be killed off mainly because of fish farming. I have fished for salmon and trout for more than 65 years and hope to fish for a few more.

Among the factors affecting the Salmon I think the growth in the seal population in the estaries must be considered. Culling is necessary to restore a balance which we have lost.

I've been a salmon angler since 1983 and have been lucky to fish such rivers as the Eden Welsh Dee Lune and Tweed.I always wonder at the miracle of this fine fish and wish more people understood it.I caught and returned a fish this year from the Tweed and saw running fish on Friday 7th on the Eden.Nothing was caught but there was the compensation of seeing an otter and barn owl.I am very conscious of the challenges facing salmon .

Mr Ian Campbell 12th February 2019

It has always been the case that circa 5% of juvenile salmon make it back. Why assume that the smolts are leaving the rivers in sustainable numbers. Your research should include their freshwater environment.

The EA need to get off their high horse about stocking techniques. Habitat needs to be as god as it can be so River commissioners cant be complacent. I daresay the main problem is trawlers. Seals don't help!

Maurice Jackson 24th November 2018

I fish on the Tweed and it is obvious the numbers of fish are declining rapidly. At this time of year (November) you would expect to fish activity but I haven’t seen a fish break the surface since early Spring!

David Rowcliffe 24th November 2018

Salmon should only be available for sport purposes, no netting at all, fly only and catch and release (likewise Sea Trout). Salmon farming should be inland only. Predatory birds (and some animals) controlled, Polluters properly fined. I do hope this this Project will be successful, we can't depend on the EA !!!!

Geoff Peck 8th November 2018

As a fisherman I am truly saddened by the state of the Atlantic Salmon and angered by the apparent lack of interest shown by our Governments.
