My name is Django and I'm a pig currently living in a factory farm where unfortunately, unless my circumstances change, I'm due to be slaughtered and eaten! This is the case for the vast majority of pigs I know and, with the help of my new friends on the Isle of Wight, this is a situation I'd really like to change! We are hoping to eventually set up a little sanctuary where I can live with some of my friends on the island. At the moment we are trying to raise funds to make this happen. Some of my human buddies have been really helpful offering their skills to try and get the ball rolling on this. I'm really into jazz music (I was named after Django Reinhardt and the other Django of "Unchained" fame who has a story somewhat like my own) and happily my favourite singer, Poppy Dee (or watch here), has gathered some of her musician colleagues together to put on a few concerts for me at my new place "Django's" - where the lovely people at Staplehurst Grange (where the old lavender farm used to be) are renting me their old tea room. Local vegan chef Aidan Gant (formerly at Michelin guide "Terre a Terre", "Herbies" - one of the best loved vegetarian restaurants in the South West, and most recently responsible for the vegan menu at the "Met Italia") has also offered to help out in the kitchen, so we will have some great tapas style dishes to offer you to accompany the music on our first few jazz nights, and he will also run a few supper clubs for me to raise a bit of money. Fingers crossed this will generate enough money to set up something a bit more permanent to raise some money for me and my mates to build ourselves a nice new pigsty!
The final goal will be to set ourselves up a little sanctuary pigsty where we can work with local humans to change our image from food to friends! You will all be welcome to come pay us a visit once we find a place and get moved in, and for the time being if you would support our fundraisers we would really appreciate it and hope you will have an amazing evening! Donations of £20 and over will be given an event ticket to one of our nights to say thank you for your support, and you'll be able to find booking details through my facebook page for "The Happy Pigsty".
