The Bends centres around David, a timorous man who still lives with his overbearing Father. After witnessing a cataclysmic event at work, David’s mind and body begin to unravel, crumbling under the pressure and giving way to a twisted reality.
David (Played by Luke Parkinson) is stagnating at his job at the local sewage treatment plant and he keeps himself to himself when he comes back home to his father (John Macneill) who spends all day in his armchair drinking and wasting away since his wife left the two of them six months ago. Things begin to change however when David meets Laura (Ellie Blackburn) and he begins to come out of his shell. The introduction of this outside influence on David does not sit well with his father and he sets in motion a series of events that unravels David's emotional, mental and physical wellbeing in a vertiginous descent into the depths of his psyche.

Eraserhead style industrial locations, David Cronenberg inflected body horror prosthetics and the Safdie Brothers tinged lighting bring to the film visual, sonic and thematic cues from a wide range of underground, avant-garde and sensory filmmakers. In addition to these cultural reference points, the film immerses you into its own unique style to bring you an edge of the seat 10-minute experience.
This ambitious production will be our final project at university, and we need your help to realise our vision. Heavy shocking prosthetics, industrial locations, professional actors and underwater shoots do not come cheap. We are hoping to raise £2,000 to cover these expenses. Please support us by donating to our film and help make our disturbed fever-dream a reality.
Shooting on The Bends has begun and it is going swimmingly. We can't wait to show you the finished product but we still need your help to get to that point, to shoot the rest of the film and to provide you with the best possible film experience we can achieve.
