Please put the Hart  back in our village!

We want to buy the historic White Hart Inn – the last traditional local pub in the magical coastal village of St Dogmaels (Llandudoch) Pembrokeshire – and re-open it for the benefit of the community.

We are a registered Community Benefit Society (8153) that has already raised over £200,000 in community shareholder pledges and grants. And we need your help in a final fund-raising push so we can buy, renovate and restore the White Hart to the heart of village life.

Our pub

The White Hart Inn started trading in 1769 and was the last traditional pub in the village before it closed in May 2019. It was an important focal point for both residents and seasonal visitors, hosting local sports clubs and a popular fortnightly quiz.

The pub was a going concern before it shut its doors last year when the current owners decided to step out of the pub trade. The unexpected closure of the White Hart shocked the village, prompting an active local campaign over the past year to buy the pub and run it on behalf of the community.

  Our Vision

We want the White Hart to be:

  • a warm, welcoming, supportive community hub at the centre of our rural village, promoting the Welsh language and culture
  • a friendly meeting place for families, neighbours and visitors to enjoy good company, real ale and sensibly-priced, locally-sourced wholesome food
  • a commercially viable, sustainable business with year-round employment for staff that helps the local economy and provides lasting value for the wider community.

Our Community

St Dogmaels is a warm and welcoming village on the shore of Cardigan Bay; the cottages clamber up the hillside and tumble down the cwms, the lanes twist and dip, the night sky is black velvet and it's the beautiful start and finish of the Pembrokeshire Coast Path. The village is on the south bank of the Teifi estuary in north Pembrokeshire, close to the historic town of Cardigan providing a gateway to spectacular Pembrokeshire and welcomes walkers (and their dogs).

The village has a strong community spirit. It is a large fishing, farming and sea-faring community and now a popular destination for tourists and seasonal visitors. Many residents are Welsh-speaking. There is an active group of artists and craft-workers.

St Dogmaels has a 12th century Abbey reaching back to the distant past, a school reaching out to the families of the future, a church, a church hall, a Memorial Hall, a Post Office, an art gallery, a garage and a well-stocked village shop. Pause for breath and then add, last but not least, a thriving Coach House Café and museum, Y Felin working water mill, a wonderfully vibrant award-winning weekly market and an outdoor Shakespeare play staged in the Abbey ruins every summer.

There were 17 pubs in the mid-1800s, but two of the last three pubs closed in recent years, leaving only one – The Ferry Inn Restaurant-pub  – to cater for over 2,000 residents and seasonal visitors.

Helpwch i roi'r Hydd yn ôl yn ein pentref!

Rydyn ni eisiau prynu tafarn hanesyddol Yr Hydd Gwyn - y tafarn lleol traddodiadol olaf ym mhentref arfordirol hudolus Llandudoch, Sir Benfro - a'i hailagor er budd y gymuned.

Mae angen i ni godi £80,000 i gyrraedd ein targed i brynu ac ailagor Yr Hydd Gwyn fel tafarn dan berchnogaeth gymunedol. Rydym yn Gymdeithas Budd Cymunedol Gofrestredig (8153) sydd eisoes wedi codi ychydig dros £205,000 mewn addewidion cyfranddalwyr cymunedol a grantiau. Ac mae angen eich help arnom mewn ymgyrch codi arian derfynol fel y gallwn brynu, adnewyddu ac adfer Yr Hydd Gwyn i galon bywyd y pentref.

Ein tafarn

Dechreuodd Yr Hydd Gwyn fasnachu ym 1769 a hwn oedd y tafarn traddodiadol olaf yn y pentref cyn iddo gau ym mis Mai 2019. Roedd yn ganolbwynt pwysig i drigolion ac ymwelwyr tymhorol, gan gynnal clybiau chwaraeon lleol a chwis poblogaidd bob pythefnos.

Roedd y dafarn yn fusnes gweithredol cyn iddo gau ei ddrysau y llynedd pan benderfynodd y perchnogion presennol gamu allan o fod yn dafarnwyr. Fe wnaeth cau annisgwyl Yr Hydd Gwyn syfrdanu’r pentref, gan ysgogi ymgyrch leol weithgar dros y flwyddyn ddiwethaf i brynu’r tafarn a’i redeg ar ran y gymuned.

Ein gweledigaeth

Rydym am i'r Hydd Gwyn fod yn:

  • ganolbwynt cymunedol cynnes, croesawgar a chefnogol yng nghanol ein pentref gwledig, gan hyrwyddo'r iaith a'r diwylliant Cymreig
  • fan cyfarfod cyfeillgar i deuluoedd, cymdogion ac ymwelwyr fwynhau cwmni da, cwrw go iawn a bwyd iachus lleol o bris synhwyrol
  • fusnes cynaliadwy, hyfyw a phroffidiol gyda chyflogaeth trwy gydol y flwyddyn i staff sy'n helpu'r economi leol ac yn darparu gwerth parhaol i'r gymuned ehangach.

Ein cymuned

Mae Llandudoch yn bentref cynnes a chroesawgar ar lan Bae Aberteifi; mae ei fythynnod yn esgyn i fyny y llechwedd ac yn cwympo i lawr y cymoedd, ei lonydd yn troelli ac I fyny ac I lawr, mae awyr ei nos yn felfed du a fe yw’r dechrau a diwedd hyfryd Llwybr Arfordir Sir Benfro. Mae'r pentref ar lan ddeheuol aber Teifi yng ngogledd Sir Benfro, yn agos at dref hanesyddol Aberteifi, yn porth i Sir Benfro ysblennydd ac yn croesawu cerddwyr (a'u cŵn).

Mae gan y pentref ysbryd cymunedol cryf. Mae'n gymuned fawr bysgota, ffermio a mordwyol ac erbyn hyn mae'n gyrchfan boblogaidd i dwristiaid ac ymwelwyr tymhorol. Mae llawer o drigolion yn siarad Cymraeg. Mae yna grŵp gweithgar o artistiaid a gweithwyr crefft.

Mae gan Llandudoch Abaty o'r 12fed ganrif sy'n ymestyn yn ôl i'r gorffennol pell, ysgol sy'n estyn allan at deuluoedd y dyfodol, eglwys, neuadd eglwys, Neuadd Goffa, Swyddfa Bost, oriel gelf, garej a  siop bentref ragorol. Oedwch am anadl ac yna ychwanegwch, yn olaf ond nid y lleiaf, amgueddfa a chaffi ffyniannus Y Cartws, melin ddŵr gweithiol Y Felin, marchnad wythnosol hynod o fywiog sydd wedi ennill gwobrau, a drama Shakespeare awyr agored yn cael ei llwyfannu yn adfeilion yr Abaty bob haf.

Roedd 17 o dafarndai yng nghanol y 1800au, ond caeodd dau o'r tri thafarn olaf yn ystod y blynyddoedd diweddar, gan adael dim ond un - Bwyty-dafarn y Ferry - i ddarparu ar gyfer dros 2,000 o drigolion ac ymwelwyr tymhorol.

Sut y gallwch chi ein helpu ni

Gallwch chi roi beth bynnag y gallwch chi ei fforddio i'n helpu ni i adfer Yr Hydd i'n pentref. I ddiolch i chi, rydyn ni'n cynnig amrywiaeth o wobrau unigryw yn dibynnu ar faint rydych chi'n ei roi.

Mae Llandudoch yn gymuned fywiog, ffyniannus a gyda'n gilydd rydyn ni wedi penderfynu dod â'r dafarn yn ôl! Gyda’ch help chi, gallwn ailagor tafarn hanesyddol Yr Hydd Gwyn fel y bydd pawb yn elwa o’r croeso Cymreig traddodiadol.

Un diwrnod, gobeithiwn eich croesawu i Dafarn Gymunedol Yr Hydd Gwyn yn Llandudoch.

Mae yna sawl ffordd y gallwch chi ein helpu ni:
