Scottish Waterways Trust is launching an appeal to raise £10,000 to develop a new Waterways Hub in Falkirk.
Back in May our outside “classroom” was deliberately burned down. This resulted in us losing a base for young people to shelter from weather, put on their safety equipment and meant that there was no place for woodworking skills practice.
However, we now want to develop a new waterways hub!
The hub will be used to deliver our employability programmes, helping disadvantaged young people in the area, and will be available for local community use.
Through this space, we will be able to help more young people develop skills as well as teach more school age children about the history and nature of the canals. We will also be able to recruit more volunteers to help local people connect with, care for and benefit from the rich environment and heritage of Falkirk’s two historic canals on their doorstep.
As a charity ourselves, we don’t have pots of cash to spare so we’re asking for your help!
If we can raise £10,000, we will apply for grant funding for the remainder of the money needed to develop our new hub.
It doesn’t matter how big or small your donation – we appreciate whatever help you can give.
About Scottish Waterways Trust
Scottish Waterways Trust is Scotland’s only national waterways charity, creating brighter futures for people, communities and wildlife across Scotland’s canals.
We connect people and place across Scotland’s canal network, where the nation’s industrial heritage joins with our unique and beautiful natural environment.
The green, historic corridors of our canals provide the perfect place for us to help people become more active, improve their health and mental wellbeing, gain new skills to help their employment prospects and learn about history and nature.
Our new hub will welcome the whole community to gain valuable experience and skills and help Scottish Waterways Trust grow.
About the Waterways Hub
With your vital support we hope to raise enough money to develop a hub that:
- Will become the new centre for all our outdoor activity and learning programmes;
- Is big enough to accommodate our participants for a range of community projects; and
- Is situated on the canalside in Falkirk
