Since we opened almost 4 years ago The Wanstead Tap has been on an amazing journey. What started as an idea to bring the emerging craft beer market to Forest Gate in a run down railway arch has fast become so much more than a beer hall.
From humble origins of being a space for local performers to perform in a friendly, encouraging environment, The Tap (as it is now lovingly known) has played host to performers, artists, writers and musicians with both a national and international reputation and brought them slap bang to the centre of the community. With limited space we have had to make every performance count, and every artist who appears at the Tap is treated with the same loving respect; we encourage performers and promote events because we love what they do (and not just for what they bring to the till).
Since 2014 we have hosted classical music, opera, comedy, photography, jazz, poetry and folk and just about everything else in between. Our events appeal to all sections of the community and we have strived to keep entry prices inclusive to all. So far we have won a prestigious Time Out Love London Award but we want to go further.
Now is the time for us to move forward and if we are to attract even bigger names we need your help. Having recently renovated the bar and added a gallery area with new seating, we are now looking to improve our sound system, lighting and staging. We also want to add additional beer lines so that we don't just have the best events, we also have the best range of beers - let's not forget that's how we started!
The greatest and most frequent thing we hear said about the Tap is "how do they get such great events and performers to come and appear?" The answer is simple, we ask them! But we also have a great audience, and we want to keep bringing the best possible performers to the best possible audience in our corner of East London.
