The Tights Club’s mission
We want to help you reduce the environmental impact of your everyday life. We can do this by delivering innovative sustainable tights through your letterbox at a frequency that suits you.
We are looking to raise £2,000 which will give us enough funding after reward costs and fees to re-brand and get our message out there.
Why are we doing this?
Good question! Unfortunately, tights are not the most environmentally friendly product. The fabric, nylon, is made using oil and although modern technology means that tights last longer than they used to, they are still ultimately disposable items.
The problem is, nylon is a type of plastic that takes 30 to 40 years to break down. Therefore, any old tights that have been thrown in the bin will sit in landfill for decades. Or they may be incinerated.
In addition, the manufacturing process is a water and energy intensive process.
BUT they are still a necessity for many women – unless you want to wear trousers exclusively for 9 months of the year… we still need warmth people!
And the size of the hosiery market is huge!
That’s why we want to reduce the impact of the industry NOW.
Our supplier has developed a way to make tights from the offcuts from their regular production, and they are one of the first to manage this. As a result our new tights have a much lower impact on the environment.
What’s more, because we believe in the minimum of waste, we will recycle them for you too. All you will need to do is send us your used tights in the post.
Finally, by delivering these sustainable tights to you on a subscription basis you are also much less likely to need to run out and buy an emergency regular pair.
So, how does it work?
Well, we aim to provide a flexible service that meets the everyday needs of our members! That means:
- The option to automatically switch between opaque and sheer tights between the colder and warmer months – the best friend of the pasty like me or those of us who slave away in cold offices throughout the summer!
- The option to receive the same tights all year round
- The ability to amend, pause or cancel your membership at any time through your account
All safe in the knowledge that you are making a more sustainable choice. And let’s face it, doing this consistently is hard so it makes us happy to help take that one item of your list!
What’s more, because we are committed to reducing OUR impact on the environment, all our packaging is completely plastic free and 100% recyclable.
Your reward subscription will be set up to finish at the end of your reward period. If you want to keep going, and we hope you will, then we will confirm this with you when your reward period ends. If you don’t, then you won’t need to do anything.
You'll receive sustainable 40 denier opaques in the winter and 15 denier sheers in the summer meaning you don't have to ever worry about running out of tights again!
Wear sheers all year round? Then this one is for you! You can always combine with an opaque if you like to mix it up through the year.
The 40 denier
Wear opaques all year round? This subscription option is for you. You can also pause your subscription over the summer if you want to take a break (or at any time!).
The 70 denier
For those that really feel the cold! You can also pause your subscription over the summer if you want to take a break (or at any time!).

Why are we crowdfunding?
These sustainable tights are some of the first on the market and we are REALLY excited about them. And that’s why we’ve pulled all other products from our service. As a result we need to realign our branding. We also really want to get our message out there – the more people we can reach with this, the more impact we can have on the industry.
Your support would also make us feel loved and prove that what we are doing works and that it matters. Up to this point we have just been testing the model with a small number of subscribers so this campaign is our big launch! As we are just starting out and haven't hit the maximum revenue limit, it also means we qualify for an RBS grant if we can raise our full target!
Who are we, you ask?
A bit about me
I’m Leanne, a Scottish lass and former expat brat who spent 13 years in London pursuing a corporate career. Working in finance, I spent many a morning trying to select which pair of tights would be the least painful / embarrassing, whilst trying to put off the trek to the nation’s favourite department store for as long as possible.
And I HAVE to wear tights. One, I am very pale (think translucent / reflective). Two, offices are basically sub-zero. And three, if I didn’t wear tights and ended up trekking across the City for meetings then my shoes always ended up rubbing like a ... you know… So yes, I wore tights to work all through the summer, no matter what the fashion gurus said.
Me and TTC
One day, whilst chained to my desk at a major financial institution dreaming of freedom and the time to do, well, anything at all, it came to me - why not set up a subscription service that delivers tights through the letterboxes of busy women like me, taking one very boring item off their to do list?
Now that I do this, and some consultancy work on the side, I am now mostly to be found working from home in a pair of comfy jeans with my dog, Nelson the springer spaniel and TTC mascot, dozing at my feet. But I do still need to scrub up for the occasional client meeting and so will grab my favourite tights from my drawer, safe in the knowledge that my big toe won’t be dropping off by the end of the day.
Your support to help us get our message out there and reduce the impact of this everyday item on the environment would be so much appreciated. And if the good vibes aren’t enough to get you to commit your hard earned cash then we’ve got some great discounts, giveaways and a fantastic prize, all with sustainability in mind…
