The Story of a Nutcracker
We love inspiring children with high quality live classical music. To do this in a magical way this Christmas, we're combining amazing live music with a fabulous story and re-working it in a way that is both musically and theatrically spellbinding! Think of the famous Nutcracker ballet by Tchaikovsky... Now turn it on its head and engage your wildest imagination... Add 6 amazing classical musician/actors, plenty of interaction and a roller-skating Sugar Plum Fairy and you might be beginning to scratch the surface... now tour it to schools and community venues during the Christmas/New Year period and you've got it!
We've kindly been awarded a small grant from Arts Council England but we need your support to be able to produce the show (costs totalling over £36k). Production costs include:
- paying our amazing cast of 6 highly trained professional classical musicians for over 29 performances
- set, costumes and props to make it all look amazing
- composer/arranger fees to make Tchaikovsky work for us
- director and script writer fees to bring the story to life
and so many other bits and pieces that are far too boring to list, but without which, the production simply wouldn't happen.
Your support will make this Christmas truly magical for thousands of children as we tour it to schools and community venues. It's important for us to reach children who wouldn't normally get the chance to see live music and theatre by taking our productions to schools to save them the cost of transport to theatres in the city, and enabling us to keep ticket prices affordable for those who can make it to our community venues. For us, it's essential to tour to schools and enchant children who maybe don't regularly engage with the arts and see the look on their faces when something magical happens before their eyes. It's vital for us to be able to make our performances interactive and intimate, and not perform in huge venues so we can get really close to children and they can benefit from being an arms length from a professional musician rather than seeing them far away on a stage. We want to reach as many children as possible with this production and every contribution from you will help to make that happen. So thanks in advance!
Crescendo Concerts is part of Music for Miniatures (registered charity 1184284) and the organisation has a hugely successful history spanning the last 5 years.
To date we have given over 170 concerts to very young children, performed our touring production of Roald Dahl's Revolting Rhymes 49 times and reaching over 3000 children (again, generously part-funded by Arts Council England and the Roper Family Charitable Trust), and over 60 performances of our Christmas Celebration (reaching over 3000 children) as well as visiting numerous schools.
Crescendo Concerts is our series for school aged children and takes musicians into schools and community venues whilst Music for Miniatures concerts provide amazing opportunities for babies, toddlers and young children to engage with inspirational live music through regular concerts across the region. Music for Miniatures concerts have a wide range of music - folk, world, classical, jazz, and have featured all orchestral instruments, choirs and instruments from around the world. Music for Miniatures concerts consist of pieces that are appealing to babies and toddlers whilst the Crescendo Concerts have a more interactive element and introduce children to the instruments in a fun, engaging and inspiring way. We believe that access to live music is incredibly important for children, so they can be inspired to learn and become musicians of the future.
If you have any questions please ask. We are more than happy to answer them all and want to make this campaign as easy and understandable for everyone. You, our lovely supporters make our world, and the world of all the children we perform to, a better place!
